A.C. Newman

What a great week I had last week, reviewing both the new Boston Spaceships and A.C. Newman’s latest. Boston Spaceships won’t be up for a while, but Dusted’s got my review of Get Guilty up right now. I say, “Newman practices a spinning plate sort of complexity, juggling big rock sounds on fragile sticks of melody, heaping difficulty upon difficulty, without a single crash (or even a grimace). It looks easy. It sounds easy. It is not.” There’s more here.

“Submarines of Stockholm”

Also, while you’re over there, check out how the usually cranky Dusted calls Merriweather Post Pavillion “the finest moment in the Animal Collective’s decade-plus history.” It’s a really good review of a really good album by Michael Crumsho.

Maybe I need to listen to the A.C. Newman album again as most of the albums I've heard so far this year have been disappointingly average,at best...

Oh well. The next few weeks will bring new albums by The Heartless Bastards, The Deep Dark Woods, Malajube, ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead and Bishop Allen.

But I guess you came around on that Pains of Being Pure at Heart?

And the Nightingales, we agree on that, if not the Animal Collective.

This new Arbouretum is pretty great, too.

Oh, and I haven't heard the Vetiver yet, what happened there? I was kind of looking forward to it.

I'm going to have to search for the Arbouretum album. I've liked all of their releases so far.

As for the Vetiver, I enjoyed the first cut Rolling Sea. It went downhill (fast) from there... One listen was enough for me.
