First day of the year...album of the year

You all know how much I hate agreeing with Pitchforkmedia (leave off the media and you'll find yourself at a feedstore)...but yesterday I was lying motionless, listening in awe and excitement to Meriweather Post Pavilion, the new Animal Collective, and today they have awarded the CD a 9.6.

What are we going to do for the rest of the year?

Oh, yeah, we'll think of something.

I had that "I'm so glad I'm still alive so I can listen to music" feeling last night for the first time in ages.

Saves you a lot of time; if you can get the rest of your top ten in the next couple weeks you can take the rest of the year off. Oh wait, this job doesn't reward that, does it? Anyway, I'm still working my way through other peoples' best of 08 lists, including one by someone who had the latest Black Mountain both on their 08 and on their 07 - I agree it's a good album, but two years worth?

Anyway, glad 09's starting well musically, although I haven't heard this yet, but what the hell, I could revise my 1978 top ten at any time.

A year off! What would I do with myself?

Have you actually done a best of 1978? I'd like to see it.

I got the vinyl last week. Yep, it's pretty good.

M. Ward has a record out this spring...maybe he can top this.

Have you heard the M. Ward? I kinda lost interest with She & Him, but I liked Post-War a lot.

It's very mellow...it'll be interesting to see how the whole record turns out.
