New Retribution Gospel Choir

I don't know if you remember how I went apeshit a couple of years ago for Alan Sparhawk's turn-up-the-amps side project Retribution Gospel Choir?

Well, okay, he's back and this time on Sub Pop, with an album called 2. Catchy title, eh? I've listened to it once, all the way through, and my initial read is that it's a little cleaner and more anthemic than the first, but just as good.

Sub Pop is giving away the opening track, which is called "Hide it Away." Go ahead, have a taste. The rest will be out on January 26th.

Shit, I guess Rob isn't working them anymore, since it's not on Caldo Verde?

a friend and i were discussing this record the other day and we both thought that various elements of it reminded us of soft, radio friendly, metal. it really is making me question why i like some music while dismissing other music. i mean, if i dig this, should i dig whitesnake? im not quite sure.

Yeah...I think I might hear what you're talking about, not sure that Whitesnake is the comparison I would use, but there's something sort of commercial sounding, especially in the first half of the album.

But, to your point, there are a lot of albums that I like that remind me of other albums that I don't like...I like Music Go Music, for instance, and absolutely detest Abba.

It'd be nice if it were more of a science, but you like what you like.
