I am very, very intrigued with the new album by Mi Ami, a SF-based percussion-heavy outfit that reprocesses soul and noise and afro-funk in what seems like a very cool way. (I've only heard a coupla tracks.) Their album Watersports is coming out on Touch & Go next week. Meanwhile, here's "New Guitar".
But oh my god, are they hard to google, since the search engine reads "mi ami" as "miami" and wants to give you the theme from Miami Vice. Which I have heard several times -- and maybe enough for ever -- already.

I have been listening to Watersports just this very day at work. Noise heavy, percussion heavy, twiddly scree heavy, shouty screechy vocals heavy. Heavy, in a body twitching, soul jerkin' kinda way. The amount of head nodding and chair dancing going on in the office will attest to that. MxBx
That sounds positive...my soul hasn't jerked in weeks.
It's good that you work in a place that allows that sort of thing.
it's not like this every day but yeah, we listen to a lot. I like this Mi Ami stuff the more I hear it. Noise + Rhythm is always a winner. Although, my only negative-ish thought on it (which isn't really worth dwelling on) is that this stuff was already done a few years ago by a few people after the Congotronics albums, it kind of feels liek this is chasing a ship that's already sailed. But that's the only academic angle I'm taking on it, and Like I said , it's not vaild - it is too visceral to think about; it's for the body, not the brain!
I'd like to hear it...and I might check them out at SXSW.
There's really nothing new in music, and if there were, there's no guarantee it would be listenable.
Watersports is one of the better albums I've heard so far this year. Hope to catch them at SXSW.
i've been loving it... you want me to send it?
Oh yeah, that would be great, thanks. I think I could probably get it through legitimate channels, but then I'd have to work for it...and I'm working pretty hard already.
ok, coming up then!
